History

  • In September 2013, the 7x 1TB HDDs were replaced with 8x 4TB HDDs.
  • In April 2014, the OCZ SSD was added as an L2ARC.
  • In July 2014, tesla began running an Ubuntu apt repository.
  • In August 2014, the Cisco SFS-HCA-320-A1 Infiniband HCA was installed.
  • In September 2014, tesla was moved from the helene network to the furneaux.ca network.
  • In February 2015, tesla began replicating the MariaDB databases from watt.
  • In March 2015, 16GB of memory was added to bring the total to 24GB.
  • In May 2015, tesla suffered it's first drive failure. Recovery was a success.
  • In May 2015, ZFS was upgraded from 0.6.3 to 0.6.4.
  • In February 2016, the IB HCA was upgraded to a dual-port card to support a new link to watt.
  • In March 2016, all data was migrated to darwin, the ZFS pool was rebuilt using RAIDZ2 (version 5), and the data was copied back.
  • In May 2016, the SYBA HBA failed, as was replaced with a generic ASM1061 controller.
  • In June 2016, the SATA controllers were replaced with an IBM 1115 LSI SAS2008 SAS HBA.
  • In July 2016, a Molex to SATA power adapter caught fire. All hardware survived the fire, and the remaining adapters were replaced with ones using a safe design.
  • In September 2016, tesla was reinstalled with Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS from 12.04.5 LTS. This was the first complete rebuild of the OS since tesla was built.
  • In September 2016, tesla was reinstalled with Debian Jessie after instabilities with Ubuntu's new ZFS kernel module was discovered.
  • In May 2017, the 2 60GB SSDs were replaced and the root filesystem was migrated to ZFS.
  • In July 2017, tesla was moved to a new Supermicro 4U rackmount chassis with server hardware.
